This lecture will present the history, archaeology and art history of Elam, a civilisation that flourished from the 3rd Millennium to the 4th century BCE in what is now southwest Iran, to the east of Mesopotamia. The main historical events as well as some artistic masterpieces will be briefly discussed.

Dr. Jan Tavernier, historian, teaches at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and works in the field of Ancient Near Eastern Studies with a focus on Elamite language and history as well as on the history of the Achaemenid Empire.

Dr Tavernier's discussant will be Dr. Elynn Gorris, Marie Skłodowska-Curie global fellow at the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium)  and Macquarie University (Australia)
