Abstract of the talk: The study of Kuwait’s political history has shaped the broader scholarship of Middle East politics in important ways. This talk unpacks that influence in the context of merchant-state relations, oil dependency, and political contestation. It ultimately asks: how exceptional is Kuwaiti politics? 

Dr. Pete Moore is the MA Hanna Associate Professor of Politics at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He currently serves on the editorial board of Middle East Report and on the Middle East Studies Association's Committee on Academic Freedom.

Dr. Moore's discussant will be Dr. Wafa F. AlSayedPostdoctoral Research and Teaching Fellow at GUST.
